I wonder if the Bev Smith Show get dropped because of her negative comments concerning Ken Blackwell's run for governor? Especially since Blackwell is part owner of the Buzz, and the fact that Ken Anderson constantly made a point of criticizing her for her stand against Blackwell. I believe the Buzz should have been bigger than that. In fact they may have shot themselves in the foot. Bev has a large listening audience and they may loose ratings during her time slot.

Some of the things that some of you say are just ridiculous. First, Ken Blackwell is NOT a part owner of the Buzz. Second, many of the hosts said negative things about Ken Blackwell and they were not "dropped". It only makes sense that Radio One would want to run their own shows on the station that they are acquiring. I would look for a lot to change over there at the Buzz with Radio One taking over. They have Tom Joyner on 2 stations, I don't think that will last for long. They are running their nationally syndicated shows on a "taped delay". I would expect that to change when they take over. I would look for the sports show to disappear because radio one has a syndicated sports show that runs in that time slot. I would look for very little local programming and maybe for Bev Smith to come back.
Stop thinking of everything in terms of some conspiracy and just look at the business aspect of it all. If the business aspect doesn't make sense. . . then you look to conspiracy theories. What they are doing only makes sense for radio one in terms of their business. I don't think nationally syndicated radio will go over at all here and I think that they will have a hard time attempting to sell people on it but I am sure they will try.

From what I've read, The Loves once owned 20 stations as heads of Blue Chip Broadcasting (Mr. Blackwell is a founding partner). They sold them all, keeping only WDBZ. The Buzz operates through a local management agreement with Maryland-based Radio One, which, according to its Web site, is the nation's seventh-largest radio company with 69 stations in 22 markets reaching 22 million listeners weekly. Ross Love is on its board of directors.
Sounds like you have some inside knowledge of the situation James, if so more power to you. As far as "other host saying negative comments about Blackwell and not getting dropped". Who do you know of besides Nathan Ive that spoke out, and shortly after he was replaced by Jay Love. Call it what you want James, I'm only making an observation.

I have a little inside information (keyword there is a little). I know that Blackwell no longer owns any interest in the Buzz. I know that Bev was not dropped because of comments she made about Blackwell. I know that Nathan was not dropped because of comments he made about Blackwell. I also know that Emanuel said things about Blackwell such as he hoped that he didn't get elected. He seems to be on the air more now than ever. I don't claim to know everything about the situation but the things that I say that I know are true. I am sure that it does look "fishy" but I know that some of the things that you are asserting are not true.

People? what is up with this drama..Radio one is owned by Cathy Hughes and her Son out of my town Baltimore Alfred Liggins, they along with the community have purchased 14 radio stations over the past 18 years, taking their self-proclaimed skills as the urban-radio specialists to markets from D.C. to Atlanta to Cali. Moreover has anyone considered that Bev, may have been here as a trester to see how this market will tolerate talk radio? Now this is my opinion, and in my opinion it is a waste of time because there are too many people here who are constanly refusing to look at the real issue as to why there is a lack of success here...Remember " power gives up nothing without a struggle>

Africabound you have a right to your opinion but in this case, you would be wrong. Neither Cathy Hughes or her son had anything to do with Bev's show being on the station that was already a talk station. They didn't bring her show here but they did get rid of her. They want to get their Syncidation One programming on their newly acquired station. They are not ready to move their live local programming yet so they put them on at night. No room for Bev because of some technical issues. It is all business. Also your numbers are wrong (14 stations in 18 years). As I said you have a right to your opinion but this time you would be wrong.

... ... Bev has a large listening audience ... ... How do you know the audience size? If she did have a large WDBZ audience the operators of the station would see it as a potentially 'large' source of advertising revenue, eh? I submit Bev's local audience was (obviously) not "large" at all.
